Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra lashed out at Rohit Sharma‘s ‘defensive captaincy’ following India’s 10-wicket loss in IND vs AUS 2nd Test in Adelaide. The Hitman’s captaincy, especially when it came to rotating bowlers, came under scrutiny following the crushing defeat. Chopra claimed that Rohit Sharma’s approach had allowed the game to drift away in favour of Australia in Adelaide.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Akash Chopra launched a scathing attack on Rohit Sharma over the usage of Jasprit Bumrah in IND vs AUS 2nd Test. He claimed that the Hitman had missed a trick in his captaincy. Rohit Sharma returned as skipper in the Adelaide Test after missing the opening game of Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to the birth of his second child.

“Jasprit Bumrah had bowled a four-over spell and had already picked up a wicket in that. So why did he bowl only four overs, and didn’t bowl after that at all? He didn’t bowl in the entire session. So you are 100 percent right when you say that you missed a trick in captaincy. Rohit’s captaincy – let’s call a spade a spade. We saw defensive captaincy. He allowed the match to drift,” Aakash Chopra said.

He then went on to get the wicket of Steve Smith.

However, Rohit Sharma then decided to pull Bumrah out of the attack and instead introduce Ashwin into the attack. While the Tamil Nadu spinner is India’s best Pink-Ball bowler, his usage in the 2nd Test has been questionable. On Day 1, Ashwin bowled just one out of the 33 overs that were bowled. On Day 2, he was introduced at a time when Bumrah would have been better suited to hunt for more wickets.
