Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh believes that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should consider playing domestic cricket to regain their form in red-ball cricket. Both players had a tough time during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia. Rohit managed only 31 runs in five innings, while Virat scored 190 runs in nine innings, despite scoring a century in the Perth Test. “It is very important to play domestic cricket. Everyone should play domestic cricket if they are not injured and if they have the time,” Yuvraj Singh told reporters during an interaction.

Struggles for Rohit and Virat

Rohit Sharma faced difficulties with his batting form in many ways, getting out in different ways, which ultimately led him to step down from the series decider in Sydney. This allowed Jasprit Bumrah to take on the captaincy. On the other hand, Virat Kohli repeatedly got out in the same manner, chasing wide deliveries, eight times during the series on outside off deliveries.

Plans for domestic cricket

Virat Kohli has been named among Delhi’s probable players for the rest of the Ranji Trophy, and Rohit Sharma has been training with Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy team. However, neither player has yet confirmed if they will participate in domestic cricket matches. Yuvraj Singh emphasised the importance of playing domestic cricket, saying that everyone should do so if they are not injured and have time.

India’s recent setbacks & BCCI’s plans

India faced a 3-0 defeat against New Zealand in their recent home series. With losses against both New Zealand and Australia, India could not qualify for the World Test Championship for the first time.

Following India’s disappointing tour of Australia, the BCCI is considering some changes. These include limiting the presence of spouses and families on tours and restricting coaches’ and players’ managerial staff from the team bus. Family visits may be limited to two weeks for tours longer than 45 days, and only one week for shorter tours.
