Dhruv Jurel wanted to quit cricket

Jurel, who has played for India and Rajasthan Royals, once considered quitting cricket. He shared an incident where he felt nothing was working for him, but some encouraging words from his father, who was in the Indian Army, helped him overcome his struggles.

“There was a time in my life when I wanted to quit cricket because I wasn’t getting any tournament opportunities or matches. I wasn’t playing high-level cricket. I told my father, ‘Papa, I can’t do it.’ He asked me what was happening. My dad told me a story from the time when he was about to join the army.”

Father’s words changed Jurel’s destiny

Jurel believes that when he wanted to quit cricket, it was his father who motivated him. His words and backing helped Jurel to reach heights in the Cricket universe. Telling about the incident further, he Jurel shared, “The army is tough, and you know 80% of the people who join quit early. But my grandfather told my father, ‘If you want to serve the nation, go ahead, and I will be so proud of you, but just don’t quit. If you want to quit, don’t come near my house.’ That was exactly what he told me: ‘Go on, give it your shot. If it doesn’t happen, I’m here for you. It’s okay. You are doing your work; just go.’ After that, I got selected for the Under-19 India team. I was the vice-captain for the World Cup, and that’s how my career started,”.
