スニール・ガバスカール氏は、ICCはボクシングデーテスト初日にサム・コンスタスを肩で押したとしてヴィラット・コーリに罰金を科すことでその任務を果たしたと指摘した。
Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar justified Virat Kohli being docked 20% of his match fee and a demerit point following his altercation with Sam Konstas on Day 1. The match referee decided to impose the fine on the Indian batter after he shoulder barged the 19-year-old at the MCG in IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test. Hitting out at ex-cricketers like Ricky Ponting who unfairly demanded a one-match ban for Kohli, Gavaskar pointed out that rules were rules and that they were followed properly in this case.

Speaking during commentary at the Tea break on Day 2, Gavaskar pointed out that the ICC cannot impose a stricter fine on Virat Kohli over the incident. He pointed out that the ICC had done no special favour to Virat, noting that the offence only warranted for only 20% penalty and one demerit point. Agreeing with Gavaskar, Justin Langer admitted that the Australian media were just being brutal.
“Level 1 offence penalty is 20% and one demerit point, you cannot hang someone for picking someone’s pocket. ICC has done no favours to Virat Kohli,” Gavaskar explained.

Kohli vs Konstas – what happened
The incident occurred after the 10th over of the morning session when Kohli and Konstas were involved in a physical bump near the pitch. Konstas, who had turned from the crease and was heading towards the other end, crossed paths with Kohli, who appeared to veer off course and walk directly towards him while tossing the ball in his hand. The two collided, exchanging heated words immediately after. The situation escalated until Australian opener Usman Khawaja and on-field umpire Michael Gough stepped in to calm things down.
