Yashasvi Jaiswal took the domestic circuit by surprise earlier this week by announcing his decision to join Goa. The former Mumbai batter obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the MCA to leave his old side and join Goa ahead of the next domestic season. Now, a report has claimed that friction between Jaiswal and Rahane led the former seeking an exit from Mumbai team.

Why did Jaiswal leave Mumbai?

As per India Today, the relationship between Rahane and Jaiswal was “untenable”, with the southpaw finally becoming fed up of the constant scrutiny in the team. The report claims that the “friction” between the two started in 2022 when Rahane – then West Zone captain – had sent Jaiswal off the field for sledging South Zone player Ravi Teja too much.

The report further stated that Mumbai captain Rahane and coach Omkar Salvi had questioned Jaiswal’s commitment after his twin failures in the Ranji Trophy second leg game against Jammu & Kashmir earlier this year. The southpaw reportedly kicked Rahane’s kitbag in anger.

Jaiswal’s new stint in Goa

Jaiswal will lead Goa in the upcoming domestic season. As MCA can’t match that offer with senior pros like Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav present, he was granted the NOC immediately.

“I have had the privilege of representing Mumbai in domestic cricket and have immensely benefited from the opportunities provided by the association. However, after careful consideration of my career aspirations and personal circumstances, I have decided to seek a transfer to Goa to continue my domestic cricket journey,” Yashasvi Jaiswal wrote in his email to the MCA.
