The India Cricket Team continues to struggle against Australia on Day 3 of the IND vs AUS 3rd Test in Gabba. The top order has faltered yet again with 4 batters registering single-digit scores. And naturally, questions have been raised on the captain, Rohit Sharma. Interestingly, Rohit has once again decided to bat at number 6 and not open for India.
Rohit’s replacement KL Rahul (30*) has been the only batter who has been a class apart from the rest. Yashasvi Jaiswal (4), Shubman Gill (1), Virat Kohli (3) and Rishabh Pant (9) failed to continue their stay on the crease. Eventually, after Pant’s dismissal, Rohit walked onto the crease.
Why Rohit Sharma should open for India?
Since the last Test, Rohit Sharma has taken up a new batting position at number 6. After opening for India across all formats love the last decade, Rohit has let go of the opening spot as KL Rahul opens for India. KL has been the only batter to score runs and not look shaky.
On the other hand, this creates a negative mindset in the team. The captain leads from the front, and naturally, it should be Rohit Sharma who should open for India. Since, KL is a versatile batter he should come bat at number 6 which would give him further stability to anchor the innings down the order.
It is never to late to make changes and should India decide to make a comeback in the second innings, the captain should step up and take charge of his batting and of his side.
