Australian spinner Matt Kuhnemann has been given the green light to continue his cricketing career after an ICC investigation cleared him of having a suspect bowling action. This news comes as a relief to both Kuhnemann and his supporters, especially after his impressive performance in the recent Test series against Sri Lanka.

During the Sri Lanka vs Australia Test series, the match officials raised concerns about his bowling action, prompting an ICC-led independent investigation. Regulations permit a bowler’s arm to flex up to 15 degrees during delivery, and Kuhnemann’s action was found to be within these legal limits. Adding to it, the bowler is not a part of Australia’s squad for the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy.

Kuhnemann’s performance against Sri Lanka

Kuhnemann’s spinning abilities were on display during the 2-0 series victory over Sri Lanka, where he took 16 wickets with an average of 17.18. This performance was made even more value for the bowler as he was fresh off a recovery from a dislocated and fractured thumb, an injury suffered while playing for the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League.

ICC’s verdict on Kuhnemann

The ICC’s investigation concluded positively for Kuhnemann, with Cricket Australia announcing: “The ICC has found the bowling action of Australian spinner Matt Kuhnemann to be legal and he is free to continue playing international cricket.” This decision allows Kuhnemann, who was temporarily banned from bowling at the international level, to resume his role without restrictions.
