The Punjab Kings are taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 27th match of IPL 2025. The team played really well in the first innings, but one of their biggest stars, Australian batter Glenn Maxwell, failed to deliver a remarkable performance. Maxwell was dismissed cheaply by Sunrisers Hyderabad, losing his wicket after scoring only three runs. He was bowled by Axar Patel on a dipping full toss outside off stump.

No Maxwell show in IPL 2025

Before the start of the season, there were high hopes for Glenn Maxwell, who had been the batter to carry the team in 2014 when Punjab finished as finalists. However, this season, Maxwell hasn’t been effective with the bat, managing only single-digit scores for the team in the last 4 innings.

No form in the last two years in IPL

Glenn Maxwell hasn’t had a good run in the IPL over the last two years. Even last year, while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, he didn’t score much. This season, too, he has struggled to put on big runs consistently.

If you look at Maxwell’s performance in the last edition, he averaged 6.61 over 13 innings with 5 ducks, which is quite concerning. He ended the season poorly with a duck against the Rajasthan Royals in 2024, and this season started similarly with a duck against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.

Despite this, Punjab Kings trust the all-rounder and bought him for 4.2 crore in the mega auction last year. Punjab will continue to place their trust in Maxwell, giving him opportunities in future matches and hoping he finds form to contribute to their winning streak.
