シャヒド・アフリディは、PCB会長の交代による指導者の頻繁な交代を嘆き、シャヒーン・アフリディにはパキスタン代表キャプテンとしてもっと時間が与えられるべきだったと感じた。
Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi revealed that he was not in favour of Shaheen Afridi being named as Babar Azam’s successor as Pakistan’s white-ball skipper. The pacer was named as Pakistan’s T20I captain, only to be replaced by Babar again after leading the team in just one series. While Mohammed Rizwan has now been named Pakistan’s white-ball skipper, Afridi claimed that the keeper-batter was his first-choice to replace Babar Azam as skipper initially.
Shahid Afridi didn’t want Shaheen to be named Pakistan captain
As per Cricket Pakistan, Afridi pointed out that frequent leadership changes led to new problems and pointed out that it happened every time a new chairman took charge. He further reckoned that Shaheen Afridi should have been given more time as captain instead of being replaced after just one series. Incidentally, Shaheen Afridi led Pakistan in just one series against New Zealand earlier this year, following which he was replaced by Babar Azam ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Babar & Afridi’s captaincy shuffles
It all started with a short-lived captaincy stint. After Babar Azam stepped down from captaincy following Pakistan’s disappointing ODI World Cup campaign in India. Shaheen was then given the reins of the T20I team. Unfortunately, his captaincy tenure didn’t go as planned with Pakistan losing a series to New Zealand 4-1.
This led to Babar reclaiming the captaincy, just two months before the T20 World Cup. However, then another debacle occurred as Pakistan failed to qualify for Super Eights for the very first time. Babar Azam stepped down as Pakistan captain for the second time in a year, citing that he wanted to focus on his batting instead of additional responsibilities. This led to the PCB appointing Mohammed Rizwan as the new white-ball captain just before the series against Australia.
