Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association has lodged a complaint with the BCCI over poor standard of umpiring in the Ranji Trophy second leg tie against Mumbai. The game saw several controversial decisions made by the umpires, including a lifeline given to Shreyas Iyer. A JKCA administrator, who was a part of the audience for the match, revealed that he was dismayed and appalled by the decisions made by the officials and hence decided to file a complaint.

J&K lodge complaint over poor umpiring in Ranji tie vs MUM

As per Times of India, JKCA administrator Brig. Anil Gupta cited instances involving the dismissal of the team’s Abid Mushtaq and Shreyas Iyer being given not out to explain why a complaint was lodged. The plaint comes even as J&K skipper Paras Dogra had said that umpires were human and mistakes were bound to happen.

Yes, we have lodged an official complaint with the BCCI about the standard of umpiring in the match. We have pointed out a couple of decisions which went against the J&K team-Abid Mushtaq being given out lbw (off Mohit Avasthi) in the first innings, when the ball seemed to be have pitched outside the leg-stump, and Mumbai’s middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer being given not out despite having clearly edged the ball. Since I was present at the ground and watching the match, I was dismayed by some of the umpiring decisions, which were quite appalling” JKCA administrator Brig. Anil Gupta told the publication.

The on-field umpires for the game included Sundaram Ravi and Navdeep Singh while the match referee was Nitin Goel.

The aforementioned incident involving Shreyas Iyer occurred in the 2nd innings when the middle-order batter was batting on 8 runs. Despite a loud nick which was heard while the ball passed the bat and was caught by the keeper, umpire S Ravi decided to adjudge it as “not out”.

Speaking to reporters after the day’s play, J&K captain Dogra pointed out that it would have been better if the officials were more attentive.

What to say. This has been going on for years and there’s nothing much that we can do about it. Umpires are human after all and can make mistakes. But had they been a bit more attentive, it would have been fun,”  Dogra said.
