The schedule for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is yet to be announced with just two months left for the marquee event. ICC’s plans to unveil the fixtures hit a roadblock owing to the stalemate between India and Pakistan over the refusal of the former to travel to the latter for the tourney. Now, it has come to light that while the PCB has agreed for a hybrid model, there are still issues that remain unresolved, leading to the delay in the announcement of the schedule.

Why is there a delay in Champions Trophy schedule?

As per Cricket Pakistan, there are certain logistical issues that remain unsolved which is causing a delay in unveiling fixtures for ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The report states that these matters would only be discussed in an ICC board meeting if necessary. Additionally, the report claims that ICC is still awaiting the response from the broadcasters to finalize the schedule for CT 2025.

Earlier, reports had claimed that ICC had accepted Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) demand for hybrid model for all ICC events till 2027. PCB had asked the ICC to ensure equality in issues related to India and put forth a demand that all further India-Pakistan matches should be held in Dubai, to which the global body has agreed.

The ICC Champions Trophy will be held in a hybrid model, with India playing its matches in Dubai while the event spans the UAE and Pakistan, as per reports. However, this is yet to be finalized and is expected to be taken up for discussion when ICC chairman Jay Shah meets the Board of Directors in Dubai.

PCB had received approval for the draft schedule by the ICC in June 2024. ICC did not make any changes to the schedule and instead said it will circulate it among other seven boards for their approval.
