Bhaker’s recent achievements & Grandma’s reaction to it
Just days before the accident, Manu Bhaker received the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award from the President of India at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Her grandmother expressed immense pride in the media, highlighting Manu’s fame and love for traditional food during her visits. “She plays very well. She has become famous all over India. All the relatives are happy for her. We are very happy that the government has given her the Khel Ratna. When she comes to me, she eats butter and red chilli chutney with great relish.”
Bhaker’s historic Olympic wins
In the Paris 2024 Olympics, 22-year-old Bhaker made history by becoming India’s first athlete to win two medals at a single edition. She won bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event, marking India’s inaugural Olympic medal for a female shooter. Later, she and Sarabjot Singh secured bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, India’s first shooting team medal. This was Bhaker’s comeback after missing a podium in Tokyo 2021, followed by a team gold at the Asian Games and reuniting with coach Jaspal Rana.
