モハメッド・シャミは、NCAで9 kgの重量を失い、インドチームのチャンピオンズトロフィーの場所を保証する

Mohammed Shami has revealed his comeback journey to the India cricket team. The right-arm pacer was out for 14 months, having played the entire ODI World Cup 2023 with an ankle injury that got out of control. His comeback date kept getting pushed back; he was initially expected to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 but couldn’t even get a match fit for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Shami’s road to recovery

Shami was finally back last month and took a 5-wicket haul against Bangladesh in Team India’s Champions Trophy opener. But the journey wasn’t easy for the pacer. Shami has revealed that due to the injury, he gained a lot of weight. He couldn’t work on his fitness, and things got out of control.

“Paaji (Navjot Singh Sidhu) 9 kg giraya hai (I have lost nine kgs). The most difficult thing is that you challenge yourself. When I was at the NCA, my weight was close to 90 kg,” he said.

How Shami changed his eating habits

Shami is known for enjoying his food. His former teammate Ishant Sharma has previously shared his musings when it comes to food. But Shami has changed himself. The pacer has revealed that for the last decade, he has only eaten one meal a day to keep himself in check.

“Since 2015 I only eat once a day. I have skipped breakfast and lunch all these years. I only eat dinner. It’s a difficult thing to do, but once you get used to it, then it’s easy,” he said.

Of course, once in a while, he does ‘cheat.’ But it’s for everyone to see how in shape Shami looks now. His 5-wicket haul against Bangladesh only goes on to prove that these cheat meals aren’t affecting him one bit.

“Sabse achi cheez kya hai ki meri zubaan jyada chatpati nahi hai (I don’t have this craving for eating unhealthy food). I stay away from the sweets. And since you are talking about Biryani, yaar kabhi kabhi cheat meal chalta hai (once in a while you can have that cheat meal), he laughed.
