Ajinkya Rahane named KKR’s IPL 2025 captain
As stated above, Ajinkya Rahane has been appointed as the captain of KKR for the IPL 2025 season, with Venkatesh Iyer named as the vice-captain. This leadership change comes as KKR prepares to defend their title after winning the IPL 2024 season.
Rahane’s selection as captain was somewhat unexpected, as he initially went unsold during the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, KKR secured him at his base price of Rs 1.5 crore during the accelerated round.. Rahane brings a wealth of experience and leadership qualities, having previously captained India to a historic Test series victory in Australia and led Mumbai to multiple domestic titles.
This will be Rahane’s second stint with KKR, having played for them in 2022. His recent performances include a successful season with Chennai Super Kings in 2023, where he scored 326 runs at a strike rate of 172.48. Vice-captain Venkatesh Iyer, who was re-signed by KKR for INR 23.75 crore, played a crucial role in their title-winning campaign last year.
KKR will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Eden Gardens on March 22. The team is confident that the new leadership duo will guide them to another successful season.
