The batting maestro managed to ward off 85 deliveries before he was caught behind by Alex Carey shortly before stumps. Kohli looked the most comfortable in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy series during his stay at the crease at the MCG, mixing his batting up well with some glorious drives and leaves.

Kohli’s 36-run knock was studded with just four boundaries, as the batter treaded cautiously against the Australian bowlers. While the visitors tried to lure him to play the shot outside off, he remained calm and displayed grit as he built a strong partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, it looked like he was distracted after Jaiswal was run-out in an unfortunate manner in the over before his dismissal.
