33歳でのVarun Chakaravarthyの流星の台頭：デカルトであることから、最後のチャンピオンズトロフィーの入り口まで

What a turnaround it has been for Varun Chakravarthy. The leggie made his return to the National Team a year back after a long absence of almost 3 years. Cut to 2025, he is en route to travel to Dubai for the ICC Champions Trophy. He made his debut in T20Is back in 2021 and then after playing 6 matches, he was dropped. He again made his way back into the team on 6th October 2024.

Following his return he has performed well. His success in IPL 2024 also played a major role in his return. After Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy, the 33-year-old has been added to the Indian squad for his second ICC event.

Against all odds Chakravarthy makes ICT squad

While some can say it is a huge gamble, then again it is the best option that Team India has. Varun Chakravarthy made his ODI debut at Cuttack and had a decent outing. He bowled his quota of 10 overs, giving away 54 runs, and scalped a wicket.

People can claim it is a big gamble that both Varun and Harshit Rana have been added to the squad, despite having very little experience in ODIs, but then again, it is the best option that India has. The Men in Blue doesn’t have a strong pace backup, where they can directly replace Jasprit Bumrah.

Meanwhile, Chakravarthy’s performance in T20Is has been top-notch. He bagged 14 wickets in 5 games in the IND vs ENG T20I series, which earned him a place in the IND vs ENG ODI series. And now in the Champions Trophy squad.
