Sanju Samson is having a tough time in the India vs. England T20I series. Four times has the opener played, and four times he’s been dismissed by short-pitched deliveries. His apparent weakness was brought by Jofra Archer, who troubled him with pace and bounce. The right-arm fast bowlers continuously clocked 145+ kmph in the first three T20Is and dismissed Samson rather easily.

After the first two dismissals, everyone had their eyes set on the Samson vs. Jofra battle. As mentioned above, it was the pacer who came out on top. A pattern was emerging, and as Jofra came steaming in to bowl the first over of the India vs. England 4th T20I, everyone was looking for the outcome of the clash.

Samson wasn’t dismissed by Jofra. But he did get out to another bouncer. This time it was Saqib Mahmood, who was playing his first match of the series. The worrying thing for Samson was that the speed at which Saqib was bowling wasn’t even 130 kmph. High pace troubles everyone, but to go out to a venomous bouncer isn’t something that Samson or the team management would be pleased with.

England had planned well for him, but Samson has to be blamed for going out in the same fashion time and again. If he wasn’t on fire in 2024, there was a possibility that he could have been dropped after four consecutive failures. If Samson doesn’t sort out his bouncer issue quickly, he might not find a spot in India’s XI. One can’t forget that the team has incredible depth and a talent pool, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubham Gill not featuring due to workload management.
