Akram was talking about Abhishek Sharma’s impressive 135-run innings in a T20I against England earlier this month and advised him to stay focused. A video of their heartfelt interaction has since gone viral on social media.
Wasim Akram has new favorite
Wasim Akram interacted with the Indian batter after the India vs Pakistan match in the Champions Trophy 2025.
“Amazing innings. I saw that innings. Keep it up. This is the start… Keep your head down and keep performing. All the best,” Akram can be heard telling Abhishek in the video.
“You can ask any player; such matches are very few (and far between),” Abhishek had said after that match.
“I would say it was all possible because of the efforts I put in the practice, the backing I got from the coaches and the captain when I was not getting the runs or not bowling well. All these things calculate (work out well) at the end, and I had the belief that on my day, I will play an innings like this,” he added.
Abhishek Sharma’s heroic knock
Abhishek Sharma’s 135-run innings set a new record as the highest individual T20I score by an Indian, surpassing his Punjab teammate and childhood friend Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 126 off 99 balls against New Zealand in Ahmedabad in 2023.
Additionally, Abhishek reached his century in just 37 balls, making it the third-fastest T20I hundred among full-member nations. He trails only South Africa’s David Miller and India’s ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma, who both achieved the milestone in just 35 balls.
