CSKの親は良いワインのようではありません：240年代には、175以上のチームの失敗

Chennai Super Kings failed to chase down a 175+ target yet again on Sunday, losing to RR by 6 runs in Guwahati. Once again, it was the batters who let the team down, with concerns continuing to plague the top and middle-order. In an era where teams are able to chase down 200+ run totals or at least put up a formidable fight, CSK seem to be stuck in the past, unable to keep up with the pace of the shortest format of the game.

CSK’s huge 175+ run-chase problem

The 6-run defeat to RR marked the ninth time since 2021 when CSK have failed to chase a 175+ run target. It all began in 2022 when Dhoni and co. lost to PBKS by 54 runs after failing to chase down 181.

Thereafter, the Men in Yellow have gone on to lose 8 games against teams that have set them a target of 175 runs or more. The losses include twice to PBKS in 2022, twice to RR in 2023, once to DC, GT and RCB in 2024 and now once to RCB and RR in 2025.

In all of these unsuccessful run-chases, there is one thing CSK have in common. It is either the top-order that has failed to fire or the middle-order. And this problem, which started in 2022 still persists in 2025. Consistency is not something that the side has been able to display with the bat. And that has cost them these games.

Other teams have begun taking the powerplay seriously and are batting aggressively. CSK, on the other hand, are still following the old-school method. They are either too slow or lose wickets in a heap. What this does is that it puts immense pressure on the middle-order.

The likes of Dhoni and Jadeja cannot be blamed forever for these unsuccessful chases. It is also the responsibility of the top-order and middle-order batters to set the stage for these finishers to complete the game.
