As international cricket stars gear up for the next round of the Ranji Trophy starting on January 23, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) remains in limbo over the availability of their star pacer Mohammed Siraj. The seamer’s participation in Hyderabad’s upcoming home game against Himachal Pradesh remains unconfirmed. This comes after Siraj was surprisingly snubbed from India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. While Siraj might not feature in the Ranji Trophy, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Shubman Gill have decided to play for their state teams. Even Ravindra Jadeja confirmed his availability earlier today.

No Ranji Trophy for Mohammed Siraj?

“We are yet to get an update. As of now, we haven’t heard anything on him from the HCA,” said a member of the team management to the Times of India.

Siraj, who last played a Ranji game back in 2019, was not included in the Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy or the three ODIs against England. The selectors opted for Arshdeep Singh in the pace lineup alongside Jasprit Bumrah (fitness permitting), Mohammed Shami, and Harshit Rana for the ODIs in England, citing Arshdeep’s effectiveness with the old ball.

Having said, Mohammed Siraj might just turn up for Hyderbad’s next fixture, which is against Vijay Hazare Trophy finalists Vidarbha on January 30. Siraj doesn’t have an international fixture to play in next coming months.

Given the load that Siraj’s body has taken in the last year or so, one should ignore his availability in the Ranji Trophy. After all, he just hasn’t gotten enough rest. As a result, he might just opt to gather all the off days he can before coming out in full throttle to prove his mettle yet again!
