However, during the IPL 2025 auction, Ashwin made a highly anticipated return to CSK, being bought for an impressive 9.75 crore rupees. This marks Ashwin’s return to the Chepauk, rejoining Dhoni and his former India bowling partner, Ravindra Jadeja, as Chennai aims to secure their 6th IPL title. The franchise has already begun their preparations, with Dhoni, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and others gathering at the team base for the training camp.

Feeling nostalgic: Ashwin on returning to CSK

Ashwin had reacted earlier about his CSK return and said he was reminded of the 2011 auction when the franchise went all in for him. “They say life is a circle. I played for them from 2008 to 2015. I am always indebted to them. Whatever I learnt at CSK then has propelled me this far in international cricket. It’s been 10 years since I played for CSK,” said Ashwin.

“The price, CSK buying me and all that is there. But, I feel nostalgic because, CSK fought for me during the bidding war like how they did in 2011. It was a trip down memory lane.” he added.
