India’s sports sponsorship grew by 6% to a whooping 16,633 crore in 2024, as per a Group M report. There has been a 6% year-on-year growth since the inception of IPL in 2008, marking a seven-fold increase in the value of sponsorship for sports. The 18th edition of the league – IPL 2025 – is currently underway.

As per the report, cricket continues to dominate the sports sponsorship market with a 85% share. On the other hand, emerging sports has seen a 2 point growth to 15% in 2024, thanks to the traction driven by the Olympics. Sports media spending rose to Rs 7989 crore in 2024, with cricket accounting for 94% of it.

The second largest segment was sponsorship in 2024 and was clocked at Rs 7421 crore.

“Within this category, ground sponsorship declined by 2% to ‘3,046 crore, while team sponsorship and franchise fees increased by 5% and 3%, reaching ‘1,681 crore and ‘2,694 crore, respectively,” the report stated.

IPL 2025 eyeing Rs 4500 cr in ad revenue

As per The Economic Times, JioStar has already secured 32 sponsorship deals. Many more are in the pipeline and are in the final stages of being agreed on. The report further claims that IPL 2025 official broadcaster is also aiming to boost its paid streaming subscribers to 100 million through direct sign-ups and telecom bundled deals. In 2024, the cumulative on TV and digital was approximately Rs 4000 crore.

“The network has onboarded 1,100 advertisers, including large brands and small and medium enterprises. This year, JioStar has aggressively targeted SMEs, many of which typically advertise on Google and Meta. IPL ad packages for TV range from ₹40 crore to ₹240 crore. For regional partners, the packages are as low as ₹16 crore. For connected TV (CTV), it is ₹8.5 lakh per 10 seconds and ₹250 cost per impression on mobile,” the report read.
