Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Ishant Sharma found himself in trouble as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took disciplinary action against him for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the game. The player is already having a tough time in IPL 2025, as he remained wicketless in his initial three matches and conceded 97 runs. In the latest match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he gave away 53 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Disciplinary action and code of conduct
Ishant was fined 25% of his match fees and was given one demerit point. He admitted to committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, and the match referee’s decision was deemed final and binding.
Article 2.2 addresses actions that are outside the course of normal cricket, such as abusive behaviour towards cricket equipment or fixtures. This includes actions like hitting or kicking the wickets or causing damage to advertising boards, boundary fences, and other fixtures due to frustration or negligence.
Gujarat Titans’ performance against SRH
Despite Ishant’s struggles, Gujarat Titans secured a convincing seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad. The win was bolstered by Mohammed Siraj’s exceptional bowling performance, where he took 4 wickets for 17 runs. His efforts were pivotal in restricting SRH to 152/8, setting the foundation for GT’s third consecutive win in the tournament.
Mohammed Siraj’s impressive form continued in the tournament, with nine wickets in four matches, contributing significantly to GT’s strong start in IPL 2025.
