Jos Buttler, the England cricket team’s captain, has heaped praise on his counterpart for leading the way. The wicketkeeper batter wants to lead the Three Lions from the front, the same way Rohit Sharma has been doing with the India cricket team. Buttler cited the Indian captain’s exploits in the last 50-over event, the ODI World Cup 2023, and how he was one of the reasons why Team India made the final undefeated.

Buttler praises Rohit Sharma’s approach

“If I look back at that World Cup (2023), the two teams in the final were playing a really positive and aggressive round of cricket. You think of the way Travis Head took that final on with the bats, so you see it can be successful,” Buttler told reporters in Nagpur.

Rohit Sharma had changed his ways in ODIs a couple of years ago. He was already one of the greatest 50-over batters and could have continued the same way. But he instead chose to change his ways. Since 2022, the Indian captain has changed his batting approach.

“Obviously, Rohit takes a lot of credit for the way he’s come out and played himself as a captain and pushed India more towards that style of cricket, so absolutely, we want to be exactly the same,” Buttler added.

His strike rate has skyrocketed. This is despite his average increasing as well. His hundred conversion rate has decreased due to his aggressive approach, but he’s been scoring more fifties now. This clearly shows he doesn’t want runs for himself but wishes to lead Team India to victory.
