The 18th season of the IPL will commence with a high-voltage clash between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

However, the much-anticipated IPL 2025 opener is under dark clouds. The match, scheduled at the iconic Eden Gardens, is all but likely to receive rainfall. In fact, the city is under an “orange alert”. A maximum of 80% rainfall is predicted on the IPL 2025 opening day, i.e., March 22 (Saturday).

Rain to play spoilsport for KKR vs RCB clash?

The Eden Gardens surface is expected to be under the cover for the entire day. The KKR vs RCB IPL 2025 match is scheduled to start at 7:30 PM IST, and the ground is likely to receive rainfall before that. The BCCI is also looking to organize a customary opening ceremony as well, a prospect that could be hampered as well.

As for the actual match, the prediction for rain increases constantly. At the time of writing, there’s a minimum 50% chance of precipitation from 8 PM to 9 PM IST. It goes to a whopping 70% after that.
