India’s Test regular Yashasvi Jaiswal played a disappointing innings, scoring 26 runs off 51 balls, during Mumbai’s second innings against Jammu and Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match held at the BKC Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. The 23-year-old Jaiswal formed a valuable 54-run partnership for the first wicket alongside India Test captain Rohit Sharma. Rohit contributed 28 runs before being dismissed. Both wickets, Jaiswal’s and Sharma’s, were claimed by young pacer Yudhvir Singh, with Jaiswal’s dismissal coming when he hit a catch to Yawer Hassan. In the first innings, Jaswal scored 5 runs, while Rohit departed for 3.

Aggressive start and improvement

From the outset, Jaiswal looked to be aggressive, stepping out of the crease to hit boundaries, managing to find the ropes four times in his innings. This performance marked a clear improvement from his brief 4-run stint off 8 balls on Thursday. The Indian batters are back in the Ranji setup after a disappointing performance against New Zealand and Australia in the recent Test series.

Mumbai in first innings

Mumbai struggled in their first inning, being all out for just 120 runs. In response, Jammu and Kashmir scored 206, gaining an 86-run lead. After the departure of both Rohit and Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer and skipper Ajinkya Rahane took to the crease for Mumbai, aiming to stabilise the innings and overcome the lead set by J&K.

Great performance by Jaiswal in BGT

In the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, Yashasvi Jaiswal impressed everyone with his performance for India. He had some standout moments, especially in the Perth Test where he scored a brilliant 161 runs in the first innings. In Melbourne, he continued his good form, making 82 and 84 in the two innings. Although Jaiswal had some low scores in Adelaide and Brisbane, his overall performance was crucial for India. His batting added strength to the team’s top order, and he ended the series as India’s top scorer and the second-highest run-getter in the series. Jaiswal showed his potential as a promising young cricketer.
