Talk about comebacks, LSG’s Shardul Thakur knows a thing or two about it. First he was ignored from the Indian team for a long time, then failed to even to get a bid at the IPL Auction last November.. but not only he impressed the stakeholders, and franchises in the IPL, but also came in as a late replacement for Lucknow, after Mohsin Khan was out injured.

Shardul Thakur ‘Lord’ for a Reason

His comeback did not end just there. In his very first IPL match for LSG, in fact in his very first over, he bagged two wickets — that of Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel. After the first over, DC chasing a mammoth 210 runs, were staring down the barrel at 6/2. For the unversed, Shardul, after not getting bagged at the auction, he had plans to play County Cricket in England for Essex, but destiny did play its part here.

Two Wickets in First Over

Let us talk about Shardul Thakur’s performance a bit more in detail here, and how he got to the LSG. In nine matches of Ranji Trophy, he had 35 wickets to his name. To go with that, he had scored 505 runs at an average of 42. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he had 10 wickets in 7 outings. And then in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he had 15 wickets in 9 matches, at an average of 24.

So, there was no doubt that Shardul needed to be there, and Sanjiv Goenka’s LSG perhaps made the best decision to rope him in the team; after poor decisions of retaining Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan. Just to elaborate, Shardul could now be a certainty in the side, given the balance he brings; a genuine wicket-taker, and can also hit the ball a long mile.
