It was on Wednesday, that RR head coach Rahul Dravid spoke about how 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi will have “some success and some failures”. But little did he know, that fresh from a 35-ball ton, his ward would succumb to a duck in the very next match, in RR vs MI, that too while chasing a massive 218.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Experiences Failure After 100
In a bid to give a blistering start to his side, Suryavanshi went for an aerial shot off Deepak Chahar, but couldn’t time it well. And Will Jacks stationed at mid on, was caught out for 0. It must be admitted, that all eyes were on the teenager, who had shocked the world with his effort — slamming second fastest 100 in the IPL.
And it could be safely said that the pressure got to him. For the record, in 4 matches, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has 151 runs, out of which 101 came in one innings only. What might have added to the pressure is, just about every fan in the country was talking about the youngster, and rightly so.
Coach Rahul Dravid Had Rightly Said..
Going back to what Dravid had said; he had opened up on what RR is actually doing with the prodigy. He went on to say, that while he is getting all the accolades, he will be subject to criticism as well, if he fails. “You cannot entirely avoid criticism or media attention around him.
“I don’t think you can control everything, and I believe you have to accept that. The idea is to help him navigate it and build a strong support system around him. It’s a part of becoming a cricketer in India—you have to handle it. We all recognise that he will have some success and some failure,” said Dravid on Star Sports Press Room.
