The India Cricket Team are playing all their matches in the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai. This comes after the Indian government refused to let Team India travel to Pakistan, who are the hosts of the tournament. Questions have been raised that India gets an advantage for playing all their games at the Dubai Stadium.

Answering the criticism, Wasim Jaffer jokingly said that India should have played some matches at Abu Dhabi and at Sharjah. He further suggested India should have checked into another hotel to silence the critics. Currently, India is the only team to play all their games at Dubai.

While Aaqib Javed, Australian captain Pat Cummins, and Jos Buttler claimed India has an advantage because they don’t have to change venues and travel since they are playing all their games at the same venue. Jaffer emphasised that no other option was possible owing to the geopolitical relations between the two countries.

“The ICC should have organised one game in Sharjah, one game in Abu Dhabi, and probably allowed them to check into another hotel. Then, probably, this topic wouldn’t have come up. India doesn’t want to go to Pakistan for political reasons and the government’s involvement—every country has that choice,” Jaffer told ESPNcricinfo.

As things stand, India have reached the semi finals of the tournament. This comes after Team India won both their games against Bangladesh and Pakistan. India still a group stage game remaining against New Zealand which they play on Sunday.

“What choice do we have then? We want India and Pakistan to play in this tournament, and this tournament isn’t going to happen without India. Just to silence all these things, India should have played in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and should have checked into another hotel here and there just to stop this conversation,” Jaffer concluded.
