The 78th AGM, followed by the Special General Meeting in Mumbai on Sunday (January 12), will formally elect Devajit Saikia as BCCI secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as treasurer. According to reports, their appointment is a formality after BCCI electoral officer Achal Kumar Joti finalised the list of candidates earlier this week.

Jay Shah replacement confirmed!

Devajit Saikia has been serving as acting secretary since December 1, after Jay Shah took over as ICC chairman. According to the BCCI constitution, vacancies must be filled within 45 days, making the SGM well within this time frame. Bhatia will take over as treasurer following Ashish Shelar’s resignation after being appointed as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government. As the lone candidate for the post, Bhatia’s nomination was uncontested. Bhatia represents the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh and he is the official nominee of the association for the SGM.

Office-bearers are elected to three-year terms, with a maximum of three consecutive terms allowed. A mandatory three-year break is required before seeking re-election. With the current term expiring in September, a new leadership team will take over afterwards.

Additionally, Jay Shah will attend the meeting as a special invitee and will be honored by the BCCI. Having recently succeeded Greg Barclay, Shah became the youngest to serve as ICC chairman. The SGM will also address routine agenda points alongside finalizing these key appointments and celebrating Shah’s notable achievement. Jay Shah will be a special invitee!
