ロヒット・シャルマは今年イングランドで5試合のテストシリーズに出場するだろうか?謎は残ったままだ。
Does Rohit Sharma desperately want to continue as Test captain despite him enduring his worst phase as a batter? Under the captain-coach duo of Rohit and Gautam Gambhir hasn’t reaped any rewards, with India losing their first Test series at home since 2012 and facing a series defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) after a decade. Rohit’s form was so bad in the BGT that he had to drop himself from the fifth Sydney Test. However, recently, reports stated that Rohit insisted that he wants to continue as captain despite facing the wrath of the fans.
Rohit Sharma to continue as Test captain?
Having said that, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice president Rajeev Shukla has rebuffed any sorts of rumours. Shukla remained confident that all the reports are baseless and indicated that Rohit isn’t selfish about captaincy.
“This is also wrong that Rohit has insisted on captaincy. He is the captain. Form or lack of form is part and parcel of the game. These are phases, nothing new. When he saw he was out of form, he dropped himself from the fifth Test,” Shukla told India Today during an interaction with the media in New Delhi on Monday, January 13.
No rift between Rohit-Gambhir?
In a refreshing dose of clarity, BCCI VP Shukla also put to rest rumors of a rift between the Indian team’s coach, chairman of selectors, and captain. Speaking on the sidelines of the Kho Kho World Cup, Shukla was emphatic in his denial, labeling the rumors as “completely wrong”. He also threw his weight behind senior players Rohit and Virat Kohli, reminding us that even the best players go through form slumps – it’s just part of the game! “Completely wrong statement to be made. No rift between coach, selection chairman, and captain,” said Shulka.
Earlier, various reports had claimed that Rohit Sharma and Gambhir weren’t on the same page when it came to team selection. Another set of reports alleged that Gambhir did not engage with the selectors when it came to picking the team. However, the differences seem to be ironed out after the review meeting held on January 11.
