インドがオーストラリア・ダウンアンダーに３対１で大敗した後、BCCIはゴータム・ガンビールのサポートスタッフに打撃コーチを加える可能性を模索している。

The BCCI is reportedly exploring the option of appointing a batting coach for the Indian cricket team. The idea was floated during the discussion between captain Rohit Sharma, coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and other board members during the review meeting held on January 11. Currently, India does not have a specialist batting coach and only has assistant coaches in the form of Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate.

India to get new batting coach?

As per Cricbuzz, discussions between the BCCI and the team management led to the conclusion that the addition was required to strengthen the side’s batting. This comes after a poor show put on by the batters, specifically by seniors Rohit and Virat Kohli in Down Under. As per the reports, few names are being considered which includes “former domestic heavyweights”. However, no decision or official announcement has been made yet.

Majority of the Indian batters fared extremely poor in the recently concluded IND vs AUS Test series. Barring Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, none of the other batters managed to put up a good show, sparking concerns. Particularly, Virat Kohli’s dismissals (getting out to outside off stump deliveries eight times) has led to the board potentially wanting an addition to Gambhir’s support staff to enhance the batting unit.

Nayar, Doeschate under BCCI scanner

On Wednesday, a report claimed that both assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate are under the scrutiny of the BCCI following the 1-3 thrashing at the hands of Australia in Border-Gavaskar Trophy. As per the report, the BCCI is planning to cap the contracts of the support staff to 2-3 years.

“Batting coach Abhishek Nayar is particularly under the scanner. Gambhir himself has been an accomplished batter. The board has asked the players if Nayar is bringing anything new to the table. Similarly, Doeschate’s role is being discussed. His lack of international experience and ability to contribute to enhancing an international cricketer’s performance is being questioned,” a source told TOI.
