The Mumbai Indians (MI) are now just a win away from all but sealing their playoff spot. With a massive 100-run win over Rajasthan Royals, MI have climbed to the top of the IPL Points Table with 14 points from 11 matches. This was MI’s sixth consecutive win. All MI need is to win just 1 more match to secure playoffs.

MI at IPL 2025 so far…

Mumbai’s tradition of failing to win in their first match of an IPL continued when the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) edged past them in Chennai. Then, MI stuttered again in Ahmedabad before finally tasting success when they ran through KKR at Wankhede. But then came two back-to-back 12-run defeats to LSG and RCB, respectively. Mumbai, who were once touted as the best chasing team, failed to find the right formula to hunt down totals.

But now, things have fallen into place for the five-time champions. They registered a come-from-behind win away from home over the team-in-form Delhi Capitals before humbling Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Fascinatingly, Mumbai have now registered five back-to-back wins. In total, they have won six games and are one of the few teams to have 12 points on the board.

MI at IPL 2025: Last 3 games, at least 2 wins ideal

As of May 1, Mumbai Indians are on top with 14 points from 11 matches. They have won seven matches, losing four. Traditionally, 16 points is the benchmark for playoff qualification in the IPL. For an automatic qualification, Mumbai Indians will need two wins to make it 18 points.

Date Match Venue Result
May 6 Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Titans Mumbai TBD
May 11 Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians Dharamsala TBD
May 15 Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals Mumbai TBD

It’s a mixed bag. MI still have two home games left, which is a huge plus. But both the home matches are against GT and DC, teams that are competing for a spot in the Top 4. The only away match is against Punjab Kings, who are also in the race for the playoffs.

Three teams are presently in the top half. Beating one or two of them is key. MI also end their season at home against Delhi Capitals, who’ve been among the top sides this season. But a final match at the Wankhede, especially if qualification is on the line, could bring out the best in them.

Here’s how MI’s path to the playoffs shapes up:

Wins in Last 4 Matches Total Wins Points Playoffs Qualification
3 10 20 Guaranteed Top 2
2 9 18 Guaranteed Top 4 (Maybe Top 2)
1 8 16 Likely Top 4
