A mid-season trip to the Maldives did not pay the dividends Sunrisers Hyderabad hoped for. The Gujarat Titans rolled over the 2016 IPL champions in an emphatic 34-run win at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday. Sunrisers needed to win all their remaining games to be in contention for a place in the IPL 2025 playoffs. In a bid to re-vitalise their campaign, the SRH squad took a short break to Maldives. However, that proved to be counter-productive as Cummins and Co were left trailing in the wake against Gujarat Titans.
Gujarat Titans’ top 3 shine again
Gujarat Titans’ success has been built on the consistency of their top 3, and they once again came to the party on Friday. Sai Sudharsan became the first to cross the 500 barrier in IPL 2025, smashing a quick-fire 48. Shubman Gill looked in fluent touch, top scoring with a swashbuckling 76. Jos Buttler also smashed a half-century as the hosts piled on misery. Mohammed Shami took the most punishment, conceding 48 in his 3 overs. The Titans eventually managed 224/6, with a late flurry of wickets from Jaydev Unadkat slowing them down.
Abhishek returns to form, Prasidh rocks Hyderabad
Abhishek Sharma returned to form and was the lone bright light in Sunrisers’ chase. Travis Head managed a short cameo while Ishan Kishan struggled for a 17-ball 13. However, Abhishek kept the visitors in the hunt with just his second fifty of IPL 2025. His partnership with Heinrich Klaasen threatened Gujarat Titans, but the left-hander’s dismissal for 74 brought curtains on SRH’s effort.
Prasidh Krishna, meanwhile, continued his stellar IPL 2025. The Titans hit the deck and kept the batters in check in a fine spell of bowling. The Karnataka pacer first got Travis Head out cheaply, and later returned in the middle overs to build pressure on the SRH batters. He eventually dismissed Heinrich Klaasen to put an end to SRH’s chase. Prasidh finished with figures of 2/19 in four overs on a day where more than 400 runs were scored.
Following the GT vs SRH clash, the Shubman Gill-led side has 7 wins in 10 games, jumping them to second in the IPL 2025 standings. The 2022 champions are well placed to push for a spot in the top 2 with 2 more home games left. Sunrisers Hyderabad are all but out, needing nothing but a mathematical miracle to seal a playoffs berth. Cummins and Co will need to win all their remaining games and hope for a lot of results to go their way to make it to the Top 4.
