The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is pulling out all stops to make the Pakistan Super League (PSL) a global attraction, allocating an additional ₹83 lakh (USD 100,000) to six elite foreign players despite already spending crores on rebuilding stadiums for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With PSL clashing directly with the IPL for the first time, the PCB is determined to lure top international talent, even at a financial stretch. Although the PSL is nowhere near the value of IPL, they still want the best for the players featuring in the tournament.

David Warner, Kane Williamson, and Daryl Mitchell are among the players benefiting from PCB’s special ₹8.3 crore (USD 1 million) fund. For instance, Warner’s ₹2.49 crore (USD 300,000) deal includes ₹83 lakh (USD 100,000) paid by the PCB. This effort comes as the PSL strives to remain competitive amid IPL’s financial dominance.

PSL still far behind IPL

Despite the PCB’s aggressive spending, PSL salaries pale in comparison to the IPL’s staggering figures. The IPL’s most expensive player, Rishabh Pant, was signed for a record ₹27 crore by the Lucknow Super Giants, dwarfing the PSL’s highest base salary of ₹1.66 crore (USD 200,000).

While PSL franchises have snapped up notable players like Finn Allen and Sean Abbott, who went unsold in the IPL, the gap in pay cheques highlights the financial chasm between the two leagues. With the PSL running from April 17 to May 22, overlapping the IPL’s later stages, the PCB’s bold financial moves aim to keep the PSL in the cricketing spotlight. IPL 2025 will begin on March 21 and will run till May 25.
