Royal Challengers Bengaluru mentor Dinesh Karthik provided an update on the availability of Josh Hazlewood and Phil Salt for the tie against LSG on May 9. Both the overseas stars missed the game against CSK in which the hosts recorded one of their lowest win margin (by runs). Hazlewood has been RCB’s best bowler so far in IPL 2025 while Salt has been the team’s go-to weapon in the powerplay.

When will Salt & Hazlewood return?

Speaking after RCB vs CSK tie, Karthik said that he was hopeful that the duo of Hazlewood and Salt would return for the tie against LSG. RCB are currently at the top of the points table with 16 points to their name. They are all but through to the IPL 2025 playoffs.

“Fingers crossed. We’re hopeful to have Phil Salt and Hazlewood back for the next game,” Karthik told Star Sports.

Hazlewood, who has 18 wickets in 10 matches, wasn’t a part of RCB’s XI against CSK owing to a shoulder niggle. He has been the team’s best bowler in the death overs, although Yash Dayal has done well in his absence.

On the other hand, Salt has now missed a couple of games owing to an illness. He is yet to recover. In 9 innings, Salt has amassed 239 runs and has shown his ability to be destructive in the first six overs.

Young Ayush Mhatre hit 94, Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 77. Yet Chennai Super Kings lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 2 runs. Yash Dayal was the star in the win as he saved 15 runs off the last over despite bowling a no-ball.

RCB’s other hero was Romario Shepherd, who destroyed CSK bowling at the death, smashing 14-ball half-century, taking Khaleel Ahmed to the cleaners for 33 runs in one over. Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell added 97 runs for the opening stand as RCB posted 213/5 in 20 overs. While Kohli smashed 33-ball 62, Bethell hit a 33-ball 55.
