After a few deliveries with a reduced run-up, he returned to a full run-up, but the smoothness in his approach and release was lacking. He managed to hit the base of the stumps a few times as bowling coach Morne Morkel closely observed him while acting as the wicketkeeper.

Shami then took a short break to chat with Morkel and head coach Gautam Gambhir before resuming his bowling. His rhythm and sharpness gradually improved, but he still appeared rusty.

This situation is puzzling since Shami was selected for the India squad for the series against England and the Champions Trophy after playing in the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Despite this, he didn’t seem to be at his lethal best and initially did not bowl to any of his batting colleagues, who were training outside at the MAC B’ ground. It looks like Shami’s return to the international arena might be delayed further.
