It was a grand occasion as Virat Kohli made his comeback into the Ranji Trophy after 12 long years. Delhi pacer Navdeep Saini claimed that Kohli’s return was inspirational and also pressurizing for the team. Saini claimed that the team understood how the game wouldn’t be like any other given the sheer number of people present to witness the game.

Fans were ecstatic upon Kohli’s arrival. As a result, on Day 1 of the Delhi vs Railways match, fans started to queue outside the stadium from 3 AM in the morning. Kohli had played his last Ranji match in November of 2012 and on Thursday a whopping crowd of 16000 people were present in the stands to watch the star batter.

Moment of Pride

“His energy is so high, automatically our energy level also goes up with him around. Then his effort, whenever he is batting, fielding or in the gym, his intensity, it is always 110 percent. As we were coming in the morning we saw the long line and realised that this is going to be different…The fans would just pour in, ” Saini told PTI.

Navdeep Saini further added that it was a huge moment of pride with Kohli joining the side. He also claimed that his mere presence of him pushed every player of the Delhi team to give 110% in the game.

“Ever since bhaiya joined our side, there has been a huge change in the team because he is a legend of the game, so to share a dressing room with him is a moment of pride for the boys in the team. So we all get inspired by seeing his intensity that remains so high. Seeing him has got intensity high too, which is a big plus point for us,” Saini added.

Railways keeper Upendra Yadav also lavished praises on Kohli. He became a pivotal player for the side with his crucial knock of 95 runs. Railways were all out with a decent score of 241 runs on the board. “So how do we maintain composure when Virat bhaiya comes out to bat, we had our bowlers’ meeting and we have made our plans, but I will obviously not share with you guys. We don’t need to get carried away by the atmosphere. We just have to bowl in the good length area. We were inspired, but we are not under pressure. When a cricketer of this stature plays with you, then obviously you get excited,” Upendra said.
