India secured their second ICC title within a year by winning the U-19 Women’s Cricket T20 World Cup on Sunday that too after defeating South Africa in the finals. After the senior men’s team triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup, now the Indian u-19 women’s team won over South Africa in the final with a 9-wicket victory at Kuala Lumpur to clinch the World Cup. Niki Prasad becomes the second captain to win the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. This marks India’s dominance in the tournament, following their inaugural championship win in 2023, where they defeated England by 7 wickets to become the first ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup champions for the first time under Shafali Verma.

After winning the toss and batting first, South Africa posted a meagre score of 82 runs. In reply, India successfully chased the target in 11.2 overs. Gongadi Trisha emerged as the standout performer in the match, taking 3 wickets and scoring 40 runs.

Poor show from South Africa with bat

South Africa struggled against India’s strong bowling attack. They were all out for 82 runs in their 20 overs. Jemma Botha and Mieke van Voorst were the top scorers with 16 and 23 runs, respectively. Parunika Sisodia and Aayushi Shukla both captured 2 wickets each, while Trisha was the standout bowler for India, taking 3 wickets in the game.

India’s top class game

In the chase for 83 runs, India put up a strong performance. After a good start, opening batter Kamalini was dismissed for 8 runs, caught by Lourens off Reyneke’s bowling. Gongadi Trisha led the innings with an impressive 44 not out off 33 balls, hitting 8 fours at a strike rate of 133.33. Sanika Chalke supported well, contributing 26 not out off 22 balls to march India to victory. They ensured a smooth victory without needing the middle and lower order to bat.

India finish undefeated

Both the teams, India and South Africa, entered the finals without losing any match in the tournament, but in the end, it was India who stayed undefeated and clinched the title.
