レポートによると、テスト形式の変更は、新しいWTCサイクルの一部となるInd vs Engテストシリーズから始まる可能性があります。
Test cricket could go through a major revamp in the next cycle of the ICC World Test Championship, as per various reports. It seems that the ICC chairman Jay Shah and ECB chairman Richard Thompson reportedly had discussions over the same. The Test matches could now be split into tier-1 and tier-2 teams, after the culmination of the WTC Final between Australia and South Africa, in June.
Tier-1, Tier-2 System for Tests?
The changes could be brought in to bring in “fairer competition”. “It is fully understood that the current structure does not work in the way it should and we need to find a fairer, better competition, but at this stage no recommendations have been put forward,” Thompson told The Telegraph.
“We have five months to work on this, step back and look at what the structure should be going forward. The World Test Championship should be fairer and more competitive. It is going to change to ensure it always encourages the best teams to reach the final and encourages other nations that want to play Test cricket, to play Test cricket,” he added.
ICC Discusses Four-day Tests
Notably, all the teams not playing each other, is seen as a major shortcoming. South Africa reached the WTC final without playing Australia in the cycle, and India of course don’t play Pakistan. “We will protect, grow and ensure the integrity of Test cricket because the format is crucial to the DNA of the game,” Thompson said.
Other than that, there seems to have discussions taken place over four-day Tests, to allow boards to hold three-Tests series’. Of course, that won’t be applicable to tier-1 teams. But then, that has already met with some criticism. West Indies great Clive Lloyd had said, “All these countries have worked very hard to get there. We have been in ICC for nearly 100 years. We’ve a great history and now you’re going to tell us, because of a monetary situation, this is how it’s going to be,” Llyod had said.
