In about 32 hours, the India vs. England ODI series will kick off. As it approaches, some news has come. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that a couple of changes have been made to the squad. Namely, Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakaravarthy. Two other Team India updates are that one of their support staff members was stopped from entering the team hotel and that Sanju Samson has been labelled as egoistic. Lastly, an Indian Premier League (IPL) update. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have shared an update on their captaincy for the IPL 2025 season.
Bumrah out of India vs England ODI & also Champions Trophy?
The BCCI has updated Team India’s squad for the upcoming 3-match ODI series against England. There have been two changes, one of which is that Jasprit Bumrah won’t be featured in the series. When the team was initially announced, Bumrah was to play the last match, but now that plan has changed. Does this mean his recovery isn’t going as planned? Will he miss the ICC Champions Trophy? There is no clarity on this right now.
RCB undecided on IPL 2025 captain
In about one and a half months, the IPL 2025 will start. Yet, RCB haven’t announced who their captain will be. The franchise doesn’t have many captaincy candidates. Apart from Virat Kohli, there isn’t a worthy individual, but the RCB management thinks there are 4-5 leaders present in the squad. Kohli had given up captaincy after the IPL 2021 season but could take a U-turn on that decision.
Sanju Samson’s ego has got to him?
World Cup winner and former BCCI chief selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth isn’t pleased with Sanju Samson. He suggests that the wicketkeeper batter let his ego get the best of him in the recently concluded India vs. England T20I series. The comment comes after Samson was dismissed five consecutive times on short-pitch deliveries. Srikkanth says Samson’s refusal to learn from his mistakes could see him get dropped from Team India’s T20I team.

Varun Chakaravarthy added to India’s squad
Varun Chakaravarthy’s exploits in T20Is have paid dividends in ODIs. The mystery spinner has been added to Team India’s squad for the series against England. He travelled from Mumbai to Nagpur and joined the training camp two days before the series kicks off. This could mean that he might travel to Dubai for the ICC Champions Trophy as well, given he’s in incredible form at the moment.
Why Karun Nair wasn’t selected for India’s ODI team
Team India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill was posed a question regarding Karun Nair’s selection in the ODI team. Despite scoring 779 runs at 389.50 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Nair wasn’t picked. Why was such a performance overlooked? Gill says just because someone on the outside has done it doesn’t mean players who have been doing well for so long, especially at ICC events, can be dropped. He added that chopping and changing without any solid reason would be a big hit for someone’s confidence.
Indian support staff stopped from entering hotel
The whole of Team India has reached Nagpur. As they were checking into the Radisson Blu Hotel, the security personnel didn’t seem to recognise Team India’s throwdown specialist Raghavendra Dwivedi, commonly known as Raghu. They assumed he was an intruder, but following media personnel yelling from the back that he’s a coach, they let him join the team.
