In the India cricket team’s Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Kohli was at his energetic and authentic best.

He was immersed in the game. Team India had gained a massive lead, having reduced Bangladesh to just 35/5 after just 8.3 overs. But the momentum then shifted in the Bangla Tigers’ favour. For the next hour, Jaker Ali and Towhid Hridoy kept the Indian bowlers at bay.
Finally in the 20th over, a chance came, but Hardik Pandya shelled it. Hridoy was given a life. Just three overs later, another chance went down. Ravindra Jadeja had fooled Jaker, who was stranded in the middle, but KL Rahul couldn’t collect the ball and wasn’t able to whip the bails off. Jadeja and captain Rohit Sharma were disappointed. But not more than Kohli. The star batter fumed and hurled an abuse. Not towards Rahul but in general.
The score was 84/5 when Jaker was dropped. He himself was batting on Jaker Ali 24 (46). From there on, Jaker and Towhid added 104 more runs together. Towhid went on to score a hundred and was the last batter out. Jaker hit 44 runs more and Bangladesh reached an improbable total of 228.
It was just the fourth instance in the last ten years when Team India couldn’t have a wicket in the middle overs (11 to 40). The last time it happened, the Men in Blue went on to lose the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 to Australia. KL Rahul would hope that doesn’t happen again.
